The steps are sloped so the heights are different heights at the front and back of each step. The first step is 6 inches at the front and 8 inches at the back, the top step is 14 inches at the front and 16 inches at the back.

Exactly what we needed
Purchased a slightly smaller set w/ 3 steps for our beagle with shoulder issues, but determined they were too small (steps too small & overall too narrow). These are on the bigger side, two big steps, definitely meant for medium to large pups BUT it's exactly what she needed to get up and down from our couch without jumping. Read another review that offensively claimed an average woman probably won't be able to assemble - pfft. It does require a little oomph, but wasn't an issue! Maybe a little telling about that review's author..... :P The step went together in about 5 minutes - pay attention to the lettering on the pieces and follow the straightforward instructions (with pictures) and you'll be fine! It's all pegs and snug fits, no tools required.

Dog Stairs XL
These stairs are great once theyre together, no vom0lants in that. But it took 2 calls to the company to put them together the right way. No clarity on which is the bottom or top step. Put a darn sticker on them, top or bottom. Its not hard. Should snap together. You need to pound them. The average women would need help. I used a rubber mallet. Need a better design for assembly.

Great steps
My Yorkie recently was diagnosed with cataracts and sometimes when jumping up on the couch misjumps and falls back. So I purchased these steps to make it easier for him to get on the couch. It helps him so much and gives me the comfort that he will not fall when getting on or off the couch now. Great item and highly recommend.

65lb Rescue uses easily!
I adopted my 65lb Pitbull, Sunny, at 7 years old. She had clearly not received the care she deserved, and I wanted to provide as much ease as possible on her joints. She easily goes up and down these stairs to the bed and the couch. :) They are plenty wide and sturdy for her. I also love that the staircase is lightweight, and I can easily carry it downstairs to the living room. Please adopt. <3

Works like it should!
Got this for our 85lb Rottie that likes jumping on and off the bed… but we want to take care of her shoulders and joints. When she is patient enough to actually use it, it's perfect - doesnt slide around or anything. Cat particularly likes sitting on it to be a creep.

Great product
Our male basset hound is right at the weight limit for our original steps. In fact he broke one set! These are wider and the distance between the steps is a bit smaller, making it easier for him to get up and down. He's over 11. Since they are wider, they are also more stable.

Great step up and down help today!
The Pet Care easy step wide step has already been a God send. Ellie chould go up and down it on the first day, the wide steps are the difference. They make it so easy and steady for dogs to stay balanced and comfortable going up and down. Ellie has an arthritic shoulder which hurt every time she jumped down off my bed. Now Ellie can walk down without pain or a limp! We highly recommend these steps to any parent who has watched their dog struggle to get up or down from a couch or bed. These steps are terrific!

Sturdy and steady, but unapproachable
Sorry the title sounds like a dating app! But my dog still won't use these steps.. I moved it from bedside to the living room, and put it next to a large wide ottoman my dog like to jump up on to look out the window, but he sidesteps it and just jumps up. I was thinking if he started using it there, I could move it back to bedside, which is high and where he really needs it. I have been having to boost his almost 40 lbs up by his hind legs nightly for months, since he is an almost 6-yr old, medium-sized, but short-legged and low to the ground mixed terrier breed. I am hoping leaving toys on the steps and stepping on it myself once in awhile, will make him understand it is ok. It is sturdy, steps are plenty wide. Just can't get him to use it so far.

Buy These Steps for Big Dogs
I have tried every step and ramp on this planet for my 12 year old, 80 lb hound mix. She suffered from a stroke and could no longer jump onto the beds so I purchased every ramp and step combo out there and retuned every one that didn't work: which was all of them (too steep, slick, heavy, didn't accommodate big dogs, etc.). These steps EXCEED expectations with functionality. While they are plastic and take some "strength" to set up (not really, but they're not "unbox and go") to set up, they make up for it in function and ease. They don't totally reach the top, but the extra distance is basically another step. When I was deciding between stairs/ramps, the positive reviews were from small dog owners which made me wary. These work very well for my big dog and she uses them without being prompted. Highly recommend!
